Direct Pursuit of a PhD Degree Scholarship

To encourage current excellent students with research potential to apply for direct entry to NYCU’s PhD program, so as to proactively cultivate advanced research talents for our country and society, the NYCU Regulations for Students in Direct Pursuit of a PhD Degree Scholarship have been established. Starting from Academic Year 2023, the Regulations were expanded to cover students on both campuses.

◆ Implementation rules

◆ Scholarship amount

Up to NT$20,000 per month and 12 months. The amount of the Scholarship is subject to change in accordance with the budget and the number of awardees. The scholarship amount for the current academic year is determined by the Selection Committee and submitted to the President for approval.

After the scholarship is approved through the selection process, it will be disbursed twice, once per semester, with each disbursement covering six months’ worth of the scholarship amount.


◆ Eligibility criteria

Eligibility for application (applicants should be eligible for the first three at the same time):

①Local students, overseas Chinese students, and international students (excluding those admitted through the admission channels from Hong Kong, Macau, and Mainland China), who pass the review process of each PhD program and are recommended by their advisors and department chair. Applicants for Industry Academia Innovation School (IAIS) PhD programs should follow the scholarship implementation regulations of the IAIS.

②Full-time PhD students without working any paid jobs in their first academic year (part-time PhD students are not eligible).

③Undergraduate students applying for direct entry to PhD programs must have graduated from their bachelor’s program with a ranking within the top 20% of their class. Master’s students applying for direct entry to PhD programs should have an average GPA of at least 3.38.

④Applicants with English Proficiency Certificate at CEFR Level B2 (or higher) will be given favorable consideration.

Note: Full-time students refer to those who are not engaged in paid full-time or part-time work, except for those working on research projects led by NYCU professors as part-timers.


◆ How to apply

The application is open once every academic year, from the first school day to the last working day in September. Late applications will not be processed.

All application documents, except for recommendation letters, are only accepted in electronic form. Students are required to merge the electronic files of the documents into one PDF file and submit it by the last working day in September to the email addresses of the personnel.
